Generic drugs are copies of brand-name drugs that have exactly the same dosage, intended use, effects, side effects, route of administration, risks, safety, and strength as the original drug. In other words, their pharmacological effects are exactly the same as those of their brand-name counterparts. An example of a generic drug, one used for diabetes, is metformin. A brand name for metformin is Glucophage. (Brand names are usually capitalized while generic names are not.) A generic drug, one used for hypertension, is metoprolol, whereas a brand name for the same drug is Lopressor. Many people become concerned because generic drugs are often substantially cheaper than the brand-name versions. They wonder if the quality and effectiveness have been compromised to make the less expensive products. The FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) requires that generic drugs be as safe and effective as brand-name drugs. Actually, generic drugs are only cheaper because the manufacturers have not had the expenses of developing and marketing a new drug. When a company brings a new drug onto the market, the firm has already spent substantial money on research, development, marketing and promotion of the drug. A patent is granted that gives the company that developed the drug an exclusive right to sell the drug as long as the patent is in effect. As the patent nears expiration, manufacturers can apply to the FDA for permission to make and sell generic versions of the drug; and without the startup costs for development of the drug, other companies can afford to make and sell it more cheaply. When multiple companies begin producing and selling a drug, the competition among them can also drive the price down even further. So theres no truth in the myths that generic drugs are manufactured in poorer-quality facilities or are inferior in quality to brand-name drugs. The FDA applies the same standards for all drug manufacturing facilities, and many companies manufacture both brand

Xanax is one of the most popular medicines that is prescribed in the United States for its medicinal value. It is a brand name given to the generic form of the same drug, Alprazolam. This medicine comes from the family of drugs known as Benzodiazepines. It is the single most prescribed drug that is categorized as psychiatric medication for people suffering from mental issues. The FDA has approved this drug for the treatment of issues related to depression. However, some doctors also take this drug for chemotherapy-induced nausea along with other sorts of treatments. Xanax comes in a number of other forms as well. You can get detailed information in the below-mentioned data. The generic form of Xanax is as effective as the brand name, though the price of Alprazolam (generic version) is a little lesser as compared to Xanax (brand drug). The use of Xanax is to manage the symptoms of anxiety, panic attack, and depression. Mostly, the reason for depression to be faced by a person is anxiety. Xanax or Alprazolam acts upon the chemicals inside the brain that are responsible for the disturbance. This unbalance in the activity of the brain is the reason for making a person suffering from anxiety. As said above, there can be other uses of Xanax as well. Apart from Xanax, there are other drugs also that falls under the category of Benzodiazepines. These drugs are termed as stimulants that act over the brain and helps a person get relief from anxiety and its related issues. This drug was firstly approved by the FDA in the year 1981. The drug act on the Central Nervous System (CNS) by producing a calming effect on the brain. It slows down the chemical movement inside the brain and reduces nervous tension and anxiety. Furthermore, it boosts up the naturally occurring chemical that is called GABA. Mostly, all the medicines that we see around are of white color. You can also say that white is the most common color of drugs as it is easy to denote
