MISSION STATEMENT The West Melbourne Police Departments mission focuses on leadership through innovation to meet todays needs and future challenges. This is accomplished through problem-solving partnerships with our citizens and businesses. The West Melbourne Police Department is dedicated to preventing crime, apprehending criminals, servicing the community in an outstanding manner, and expediting the flow of traffic in a safe, calm manner. HISTORY The West Melbourne Police Department traces its roots back to 1959 shortly after the City was created. Today our Department has 52 sworn officers and 10 professional staff members. Together we are responsible for the protection and safety of West Melbournes 28,857 residents as well as the many visitors that come and go through our city every day.
