Waverly Light and Power

In 1904, the City of Waverly, Iowa invested $13,500 to establish Waverly Light and Power, a municipally owned electric utility that now serves approximately 4,600 customers in and around Waverly. Managed by a board of trustees, Waverly Light and Power offers customers local control and decision making, responsive service and exceptional reliability. Waverly Light and Power was the first public power system in the Midwest to own and operate wind generation, positioning the utility as a national leader in renewable energy. Waverly Light and Power owns and operates three wind turbines that offset carbon dioxide, a leading greenhouse gas associated with climate change. The utility exemplifies community involvement, from Trees Forever tree-planting initiatives and school outreach programs to energy efficiency and volunteer programs.
