Its a secret the locals have known for generations: the land of Los Vascos benefits from an ideal microclimate with plenty of sun, water, semi-arid soil, no frost, thanks to the high Andes mountains that act as a backdrop, offering the perfect conditions to produce exceptional wines. Back in the 18th century, it was a Basque family that first planted grape vines in this lush part of Northern Chile. When Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite purchased Vina Los Vascos in 1988, they were amongst the first European families to acquire a vineyard in the region. Extensive land surveys were conducted to identify the best terroirs, vineyards were restructured, and the bodega was restored to meet the new requirements for quality winemaking and ageing.
