The Shire of Wiluna

The Shire of Wiluna is located in the Mid-West region of Western Australia, about 950 kilometres northeast of Perth. The Shire covers an area of 182,155 square kilometres. Historically, gold mining in the area caused the town to thrive and prosper. At its peak, the town had a regular railway service to Perth, four hotels and many other amenities and facilities. These days the shire is predominantly mining and pastoral land with a population of around 742 plus a large proportion in mining villages, which are run mainly on a fly-in fly-out basis. The Shire of Wiluna is a vast area of low rainfall and extreme temperatures with beautiful rock formations.
