Mission Statement: The Open Door NJNY empowers marginalized immigrants to reach their full potential and successfully integrate, participate and contribute to their mainstream society with an end goal of strengthening their families. The Open Door provides (NY and NJ) immigrant adults with 5 levels of ESL instruction, GED/TASC preparation and computer literacy; all free of charge to students. The Open Door also fosters a strong sense of community, often referred to as familia, where individuals are reminded that they are valued, cared-for members of our society. In an effort to meet the additional felt needs of our students, we provide them with supplemental offerings including workshops on legal counsel, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, etc. We have 600+ students to date across our four program locations: West New York, NJ, East Harlem, the Upper West Side of Manhattan and a virtual platform.
