The Hospitalist Project @UCM

Central to the Hospital Medicine Program, The Hospitalist Project, is one of the largest employers of undergraduate research assistants at the University of Chicago Medical Center. This Multicenter Trial of Academic Hospitalists, which began in 1997 and of which the University of Chicago Medical Center serves as the home base, seeks to measure the quality of care and health outcomes on the general medicine services in the hospital. The ultimate goal of this program is to understand how factors affecting medical education and networking of hospital staff influence the quality of care that patients receive. The research assistants of this program play an integral role in its successful execution. Their tasks run the gamut from conducting in-person, inpatient interviews to entering primary data into the collection protocol.
