Room in the Inn

Our History In the beginning, December 1986, four congregations committed to shelter homeless people through March 1987. By the end of that winter, 31 congregations had joined. Now we have over 180 congregations in Middle Tenn. and over 6,000 volunteers, in addition to our downtown campus, sheltering almost 1400 men and women from November 1st through March 31st each season. 365 days a year we offer emergency services, transitional programs, and long-term solutions to help people rebuild their lives. The heart of Room In The Inn remains its hospitality. In 1995 we moved from Demonbreun Street to 8th Avenue South to make way for Bridgestone Arena. In 2010, we opened an new 45,000 square foot building and began offering permanent supportive housing for the first time. We now can walk with people on their journey out of chaos, through periods of great change, and continue to support them as they rejoin the workforce, seek education, and work with partner agencies.
