Since our establishment in 1970, the Marine Science Institute has been at the forefront of environmental education in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our mission is rooted in the belief that hands-on experience in the local marine environment fosters curiosity, deepens scientific understanding, & instills a sense of responsibility for environmental stewardship among students of all ages. In response to the growing concern over water resources in the Bay Area, the Institute was founded on the pioneering idea of connecting students directly with their natural surroundings. Prior to our inception, there was a noticeable gap between environmental awareness and educational opportunities in the region.
