THE LUA STORY How It All Began While there may be have been attempts back in the 1960s to organize an association of underwriters, it was only in October 1983, that the efforts to form the Association gained momentum. Armed with their vast experience and driven by unwavering enthusiasm, Mrs. Avelina G. De Jesus, from Insular Life Assurance Co., Ltd., Mr. Orlando G. Javier, then with B.F. Lifeman Insurance and the late Mr. Gonzalo B. Cruz, then with Manila Bankers Life Insurance, prepared what would be a recipe for life insurance underwriters hungry for training, education and professional development. Mrs. De Jesus was the only MDRT members from the Philippines at that time. De Jesus, Javier and Cruz sent out invitations to distinguished names in the industry on the basis of business conduct, productivity and moral character.
