As an ICU physician, founder Marie Pavini MD watched as patient lives were negatively affected by physical and chemical restraint, and realized we need better tools. Bedside sitters and e-sitters only served to dominate, victimize, and scare patients and were not able to assure safety. Through NIH funding and research, the Exersides Refraint was developed, tested, and shown to be safe and effective, and HD Medical was born. In subsequent years, the company grew its family of products and today continues in research and development, engineering products that enable patients, caregivers, and family members to use common sense to solve common problems.
