In 1903 Detroit, Henry Ford founded the Ford Motor Company-the manufacturer that is often described as the catalyst for the American automotive industry. Despite the legend, Ford did not actually invent the assembly line, but he did seek to make automobiles accessible and affordable for the average person-an idea that continues to shape the modern world.
