Gardopia Gardens

Gardopia began in 2015 to address health disparities in a high-crime corridor on the near Eastside of San Antonio. Initially funded with the Bryne grant through the San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA), Gardopia implemented crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) as a methodology for crime reduction. Working with SAHA, Gardopia became the Eastsides first Garden Utopia, where members of the community began growing their own food on an abandon lot at 619. N . New Braunfels. Today, we continue to serve an at-risk multi-cultural community that experiences high rates of unemployment, poverty, obesity, and other non-communicable diseases (NCD), tobacco use, alcohol, physical inactivity, and unhealthy diets increase the risk of dying from non-communicable diseases.
