F.I.T. Manejo Florestal do Brasil Ltda. is part of the business group F.I.T. Timber Growth Fund Ltd., an Investment Fund open to qualified investors. The main scope of the Fund is to invest in sustainable projects, natural forests and plantations, as well as further processing and sale of products and byproducts. The afforestation project began in 1999 due to the promising results of an experimental planting of 1,000 seedlings of Acacia mangium in Boa Vista-RR, Brasil. The Acacia plantations, which now cover an area of approximately 30,000 ha, were deployed in order to meet the demand of raw material for sawn products industry, energy, etc. It should be noted that the areas acquired for afforestation were historically used as grazing land and existing native forest areas have been fully preserved.
