The Faculty of Security was founded in 1977 within the Center for Educating personnel for security and social self-protection. The Faculty of Security remained the only higher education institution in the territory of former Yugoslavia many years after its foundation. It was focused on educating personnel that would satisfy the needs of the police and the security structures as a whole. The institution was re-established in 2003, with the adoption of the Law on Police Academy.
