ELSA Louvain-la-Neuve

The European Law Students Association is the largest law students association in the world. In the early 90s, ELSA International moved to Brussels, primarily to establish closer ties with the European institutions, whose support it quickly won. This support was soon joined by that of major international law firms. Recognition of the work carried out enabled ELSA International to obtain the status of Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), which is reflected in its status as an observer member of ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) and UNCIL (United Nations Commission on International Law). Thanks to this recognition by UN institutions, ELSA members were able to attend the conferences preparing the statutes of the International Criminal Court and take part in the discussions (some of their proposals being relayed by plenipotentiaries).
