OUR ROOTS Sparwood is located in the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation, which covers approximately 70,000 km2 within the Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Heritage and local mining history also play a large role in the character and identity of Sparwood and its residents. Some residents still have strong memories of the former settlements of Michel, Natal, and Middletown that were relocated to Sparwood in the mid-60s.
