Cosumnes Fire Department was formed in 2006 as a result of a merger between the Elk Grove Fire Department and the Galt Fire Protection District. The department serves the City of Elk Grove, the City of Galt, and part of the unincorporated area of southern Sacramento County. Our service area covers approximately 160 square miles and serves approximately 170,000 people. Currently we employ approximately 165 personnel. The department has eight fire stations, nine suppresion companies (eight engines, one truck), and six medic units.
