Colegio Naval

The need to prepare young people for the Navy, even before entering the Naval School, dates back to the 19th century. It was sought, then, to instill a taste for the sea and marine things, in addition to providing a solid intellectual, moral and military-naval training. For that, up to the Naval College of our days, many steps were taken. Thus, by Decree No. 4679, of January 17, 1871, an Externate was established at the Courts Navy Arsenal, in Rio de Janeiro, which consisted of a one-year course for the teaching of preparatory subjects for the course at the School of Marine. Then, by Law No. 2670, of October 20, the creation of the Naval College, the first high school military education in Brazil, was authorized by Decree No. 6440, of December 28, 1876, signed by Princess Isabel, then occupying the Regency of the Throne.
