City of Bellmead, Texas

Bellmead is home to more than 9,900 people who enjoy easy access to Baylor University, Texas State Technical College Waco and McLennan Community College as well as a host of attractions in neighboring Waco. People who live in Bellmead enjoy a sense of community. From La Vega Little League that has been providing baseball for area children for more than 60 years to the annual Christmas parade that has been continuous for half a century, Bellmead is a place where tradition is treasured. The community began in the mid-1920s, when the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad chose the site for its locomotive shops. Several hundred people were employed at the shops, and families began moving to the area. The first school was called Bellmead in honor of Belle Meade Farms, a prominent horse farm in Tennessee.
