Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana

Bar Council of Punjab & Haryana at Chandigarh is the apex body of lawyers in the three states in India, entrusted to regulate the legal profession. Some of the important functions are to issue licenses to practice law in India, admit persons on its roll as advocates, exercise disciplinary jurisdiction by entertaining and determining cases of professional misconduct and other misconduct against advocates on its roll (on a clients complaint or suo-moto) whilst safeguarding the rights, privileges and interest of advocates. Being an autonomous yet statutory body established under the Advocates Act 1961 (passed by the Indian Parliament) it is run by the given 25 elected members from amongst the advocates. The Advocate Generals of the both states i.e. Punjab & Haryana are ex-officio members of the State Bar Council.
