Its operational area is the Ballyhoura Area, a dispersed rural area with a total population of 78,191 (density 41.8 persons per sq. km), with 54 local communities. The nearest urban centres are Limerick and Cork which are respectively 40 km and 60km from Ballyhouras headquarters in Kilfinane, Co. Limerick.
