AK Steel International is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. which is headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. Several subsidiaries of AK Steel International operate in Europe. Offices are located in the Netherlands, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain and Italy. In 2020, Cleveland-Cliffs acquired AK Steel (including AK Steel International), vertically integrating its legacy iron ore business with quality-focused steel production and emphasis on the automotive end market. Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America. Founded in 1847 as a mine operator, Cliffs is also the largest producer of iron ore pellets in North America.
