The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) was created in 1995 as a Foundation between the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the University of Neuchatel, the City and State of Neuchatel, Switzerland. As an independent study centre, with its headquarters in the Hotel DuPeyrou, in Neuchatel, CIES was set up to address the inherent issues in the complex world of sport with a focus mainly in the fields of law, sociology and economics.
